Destination Wedding Photography
~ Glen R Johnson ~
Where should I drop a pin for your wedding?
Are you planning something a bit… off the beaten path?
Destination weddings are my absolute favorite and I don’t say that as a young photographer who simply WANTS and dreams of doing them, I say it as someone who has actually successfully completed 59 Destination weddings in countries outside the continental US.
To illustrate the point, I have to show off a bit with this little map (below) that shows all the places I’ve shot weddings over the years. In addition to bringing up a ton of memories of all the adventures I shared with these couples, looking at this map also reminds me of all the brides and grooms that placed their trust in me to meet up with them, often in some remote location on the other side of the planet, to capture their unique wedding day. Getting there on time with me and all my gear still together sounds like nothing when you work in the US, but try doing that in a remote corner of Jamaica or the Dominican Republic where there are no signs on any of the roads… or in a country where the signs are not in your language. Compared to a wedding in the US, destination weddings have a very unique set of challenges due to the complexity of world travel. Sometimes, just managing to arrive at the location feels like you just ran a marathon.
But yes, of course the magic of visiting a strange land is definitely worth it, and I look forward to seeing where couples will choose to go next.

My books
In 2006 the book publisher John Wiley & Sons invited me to write a textbook on digital wedding photography. The first edition came out in about 2007 and it sold so well that in 2010 they asked me to do it again with all updated material. The second version came out in 2011 and is still available wherever books are sold.
I feel very proud of this achievement, first for the accomplishment of getting two books published with my name on it, but then even more so to have had such a positive influence in the world of wedding photography contributing to the education of well over 50,000 photographers worldwide – assuming they actually read it.
